Kanye West Not Concerned with Heartbreak Sales

While Kanye West got into a war of words with 50 Cent over album sales last year, the Chicago rapper isn’t concerned about doing big numbers for his latest effort, 808s & Heartbreak.
While the work, West’s fourth studio effort, is sure to be in the running among top selling albums, creating “great art” trumped commercial success this time around.

“You know people sometimes don’t understand great art when they first hear it, but I am very confident in it,” West told the Associated Press. “Whether it sells as much as the last one, or way more, I feel like I am just successful in doing something I felt really good about.”

History may be on the side of outside the box album projects from Hip Hop artists. Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse found commercial success via Gnarls Barkley and Andre 3000’s The Love Below helped push OutKast to diamond status on the Billboard charts.
